Merino HS Fall Drama 2012

Kix and Ace both had a blast participating in the high school drama production this weekend!  This was Ace's first opportunity, and Kix's .... well probably the 4th one he's been in. They did 2 short plays. One was the "Suess Odyssey"

He also had a role as the.... well I'm not sure what is name was. He was a greek guy who yelled announcements when people were coming or going from the king's presence.... courtier maybe?  :)  He got several laughs.  :)



Kix also had a role in the "greek" play, which was a spoof of the Marx Brothers in the middle of a Greek tale about Oedipus.... Kix stole the show.  :) (in my unbiased mother opinion, of course)









In the Suess Odyssey, he was cast as a "suitor"

Also, he had parts as crew member 1 & a bunch of other numbers. He would magically appear as a new crew member with the next number in line after meeting some untimely death as he accompanied Odysseus on his quest.

I am in love with this new song by Sara Bareilles. Thank you Sara for your positive creativity!!   As you can see, I originally posted this when I first heard the song. It is now Dec. 1st, and Brave has become pretty popular as the year has gone on, and even saw a recent spike in the charts when there was a fuss from some fans that Katy Perry had "stolen" from Brave when she did her hit song "Roar."  haha Anyway, there have been lots of covers of this song lately, and several music videos that warmed my heart.  But, I saw this one today, and it had me in tears.  This is what life is all about.  Thanks again Sarah for inspiring the goodness in so many people this year!

Virginia is entirely too far away. . .

Well . . . She's really gone. Her room has a freshly shampooed carpet, thanks to Grandma. Her bed is there, stripped of the green and blue bedding she loved, and there are a ton of empty hangers in her tiny little cabinet that we called a closet. Some of the posters are still on the wall - thank goodness - because some small things like that make me feel like she'll be back in a few days . . . ?? Not. Love you Rissy! Thanks for sharing 18 years with us side by side. Even though I don't have the backseat driver view that I've enjoyed so much, I'm so excited for this next chapter in your life. I know you've got amazing things coming your way - and I will be cheering you on with my whole heart - just from a different view.

My 7 recipes

**(Dec. 10th) OK - I lied- it's 8 recipes. Taysa and I made sugar cookies yesterday, and I realized I left those out of this list - so technically it's 9 if you count the recipe for frosting..... I only use 7 recipes. I don't only cook 7 things. It's just that I don't use recipes. For example, I make spaghetti with meat sauce, chilli, different soups, enchiladas, crock pot stuff, etc.  but I just throw things together and shake in the spices. There is rarely a recipe involved.   Baking, on the other hand, does require measuring stuff.  During the first few years of our marriage, I tried lots of different recipes, mostly ones that I got from my mom. I tweaked them a bit early on, but now I pretty much use these 7, and that's just what I bake. All the time. Chocolate Chip Cookies These win everyone over. Every time.
